Vancouver’s Listel Hotel Checks you in with 4 Green Keys
For the environmentally-inclined, a better world can still mean a comfy one. And for those seeking sanctuary – or a least a quick getaway – to Vancouver’s scenic scapes, a stay at the art-full boutique Listel Hotel is sure to be restorative in more ways than one. As the first Vancouver hotel to install a cutting-edge renewable energy system, this 4 Green Keys eco-rating recipient is committed to reducing its carbon footprint (and annual energy expenses), thanks to the addition of solar panels and a highly resourceful heat recovery system. In simple terms: the sun will provide. Partnered with BC-based Swiss Solar Tech, the Listel will focus on efficient heating and cooling for the property with the use of equipment typically utilized as a ground-source heat pump. Rather than the manipulation of underground temperatures to control conditions, this new design connects to solar collectors, a heat recovery system and a 20 ton air-to-water heat pump. What does that mean? Better heat recovery. Which translates into existing gas-fired boilers running less, and an improved heating and cooling of water for the hotel’s 129 rooms. In all, it converts into savings, as the property estimates that the entire setup will enable them to reduce carbon emissions by 170 tons annually. This renewable system is a welcome addition to a Listel lineup that already includes a comprehensive recycling program, composting, various water, energy reduction and air quality programs, a towel and sheet reuse program, bulk amenities, and a strong commitment to organic and local food and wine. At the Listel, it’s time to soak in the sun. For an in-depth look into the Listel’s solar efforts, visit www.thelistelhotel.com
