Galway is the festival capital Ireland. It has a thriving youth culture and a richly diverse blend of events and attractions throughout the year. It is a vibrant, friendly city and a powerful magnet for tourists from all over the world.

‘Going to Galway’ has become synonymous with ‘going on holiday’ or ‘getting away from it all’. ‘Going to Galway’ means stepping off the treadmill of life and entering that other dimension where imagination reigns supreme, where fun and merriment dictate your progress from day to day.

Galway is celebrated for its lively pubs, atmospheric restaurants and dynamic street entertainment. There are concerts, displays and exhibitions throughout the year. Music, conversation and laughter seem to emanate from the very walls.

The Galway Races, Galway Arts Festival and the Galway Oyster Festival are three of the most successful events in Ireland and, as such, attract many thousands of new and returning visitors annually. Bed and breakfast and hotel accommodation in Galway is understandably at a premium during these events and is usually booked well in advance by regular visitors and devotees.

According to a recent Bord Failte report, mainland Europe produced the strongest growth in overseas visitors to Ireland with significant increases from France, Spain and the Nordic countries, and good growth from Italy, Germany and Switzerland. In addition, the emerging markets in Eastern and Central Europe continue to generate significant increases.

The report added that visitor satisfaction levels with their holiday in Ireland remained high in 2007: “For 93% their holiday either exceeded or matched their expectations and 98% said they would recommend a holiday in Ireland. Their satisfaction with specific elements of their holiday here was very consistent: beautiful scenery (90%); friendly people (86%); natural, unspoilt environment (80%); and safety and security (78%).”

Thousands of these visitors gravitate unerringly to Galway beguiled by the city’s magical reputation and a host of travellers’ tales.

John G Vincent has written for numerous newspapers and online journals. He is regular contributor to http://www.galwaybedandbreakfasts.com - a website dedicated to helping tourists and holidaymakers find the most suitable hotel, bed and breakfast and holiday cottage accommodation in Galway and its adjoining counties.

India, the land and her people, a mere mention of the word India takes one to heights of delight and compels people from other countries to pay a visit at least once. However, the fauna is something, which is unique to this land. The source of these exotic varieties is the jungles of India, which are scattered over the geographic landscape. Then there is a wide array of about 80 national parks and countless reserved forest areas. For the people from other countries, who want to savor the very best of the jungle life and yet can’t do without the luxuries, wildlife tour India is the answer. The package provides a unique, though refreshing experience for the people from other countries. Through this package, you can get the accommodation at the wildlife resorts which have been furnished with the modern gadgets.

India is a wildlife paradise for the nature seekers and can offer anybody a chance to take a peep at its fauna. For wildlife lovers, a number of wildlife tour India packages are there to be selected from. These wildlife tours take you to many wildlife parks and sanctuaries in India. Many wildlife safari options are available which include jeep safari in the Indian jungles and elephant safari. Tiger viewing on the back of an elephant is one of the favorite activities for the adventure seekers.

During the wildlife tour India, you can experience the flavors of India while putting up at various accommodations in the resorts in the jungles. One of the famous places is the Corbett National Park, which is home to the Indian tiger. Others include Bandhavgarh National park, Kaziranga National Park, Gir wildlife sanctuary and others. For centuries, India has been famous for her flora too and the Indian jungles are a sight to see. It is a treat to see so much greenery which is missing in the concrete jungles of India.

Many wildlife resorts in India have been fitted with the modern gadgets. For the tourists, this type of experience proves to be very exciting as they can now savor the luxuries of life in the midst of a jungle. The resorts have been constructed right in the middle of the reserved sanctuaries, which at times, prove to be very distracting to the animals. Though you can watch them from your window, it amounts to disturbing their space which at times, proves to be fatal. A number of incidents in recent years prove that the conflict between the beast and the man is increasing. Yet everybody knows who is to be blamed for this sorry state of affairs. Provisions should be made to re-locate these luxurious resorts far from the jungle. Wildlife tour India will then serve its purpose if the people visit these resorts and leave the animals in peace.

Wildlife tour India includes much more. Some of the packages include the viewing of tribal dances and their culture. The tribes, which have been living since ages outside these forests possess a lot of local knowledge. This includes the knowledge about the unique medicinal value of the jungle plants. You can enrich yourself with their age-old wisdom in case you want to. One more thing here. Take a good pair of boots with yourself to withstand the rough terrain of the jungle and also the mosquito repellents. At night, these will protect you from the insect bites and the infection, which you might acquire form them.

Located about 400 kilometres north of Sydney on the New South Wales Central Coast lies one of the most diverse seaside destinations in Australia. Port Macquarie, with its population of 40 000 people, has everything you would want from a campervan touring holiday - lovely beaches, clusters of interesting little settlements nearby, a rich hinterland that boasts plenty of nature reserves and a long history dating back to convict times that reflects itself in the numerous historical buildings of the region. As it is firmly established as a tourist destination, everything you may need on your holiday is just a stones throw away, and there are a number of caravan parks where you can base your campervan while you explore the region.

Obviously on a visit to a coastal town like this the beaches are of the utmost importance, and Port Macquarie does not fail to deliver. It is situated where the Hastings River enters the sea, and much of the towns recreational activity is based around these two aquatic playgrounds. Town Beach is right on the river mouth, and across from it is the 16 kilometre long North Beach. Both are very popular amongst surfers- in fact surfing is just one of many watersports that is popular here. Windsurfing is also a favourite, especially at Big Bay, Pilot Beach and Trial Bay. Heading south there are more beaches that have good swell and good wind, such as Bonny Hills and North Haven. Closer to the centre of town one can hire jetskis, and of course boats are also available for hire. This is a favourite option amongst anglers, who can explore both the river and the coastline and try their luck with the numerous species of fish here. Favourite shoreline fishing spots include the Co-op Wharf, the Regatta Ground and Settlement Point Reserve.

If you get the exploring bug and fancy seeing a bit of the area, then hop into your motorhome and head south to the Camden Haven, which is about a thirty minute drive away. Here there are a number of small communities gathered around the point where the Camden River flows into the sea. It is a picturesque and unspoilt region that is perfect for outdoor pursuits of all kinds, including walking, sightseeing and fishing. At the very north of the Haven is the township of Lake Cathie, which boasts a modest population of just 1500 people. The highlight here is the lake itself- it is a seawater lake that has long sandy beaches along its foreshore, almost like a miniature ocean. It is perfectly safe for swimming, which makes it a popular destination amongst young families. Its surrounds consists of thick bush, much of which is protected by nature reserves, so hiking and bushwalking is also a popular option here.

In fact bushwalking is a popular pasttime closer to Port Macquarie as well, where people love to explore the rocky headlands and the many gardens of the town. One of the favourite spots is Kooloonbung Creek Nature Park, a 50 hectare area designed to preserve natural bushland and provide a series of walks through different ecosystems, varying from forests to estuarine regions. there are plenty of birds and animals here too, so keep your eyes peeled for koalas, sugar gliders and a number of reptiles. If its animals you’d like to see then head on down to the Billabong Koala and Aussie Wildlife Park, which consists of seven acres of beautifully landscaped gardens criss crossed with easy walkways that take you past enclosures housing over 50 species of Australian animals.

Its always nice to indulge in a bit of history when on holiday- you get a better feel for a place when you know a bit about its past and can appreciate the events it has been through. As an established coastal town Port Macquarie has a rich history, one that is represented in the Mid North Coast Maritime Museum, on the corner of Hayward Street and Ocean Drive. Close to Flagstaff Hill, which is a former naval lookout station, it houses a series of artefacts and displays documenting the maritime history of the town. The Port Macquarie Historical Museum on Clarence Street is also a favourite hangout for history buffs, with numerous artefacts and ephemera from the towns past. Nearby is the Historic Grave Yard, which was a major burial ground for early settlers, and is a shady and pleasant place to walk through.

There are numerous accommodation options available for tourists in Port Macquaire, but of course if you are in a camper then caravan parks or camping grounds will be your choice of place to stay. You are spoiled for choice in that department, and should have no problems finding a place to bunk down. In the summer months its probably a good idea to book well in advance, as the town becomes a bustling centre of activity as the tourists flood in. So book that holiday and enjoy!

By Harwood E Woodpecker

Cruise holidays have been growing in popularity for the past few years with more and more families looking to take their first family cruise as their annual vacation. Although the cost of many of the cruises is very reasonable for what you receive there is still a large proportion of families who find the cost of a two week luxury cruise too expensive for what they can afford and what they would usually spend. So what option do a family have who want to experience all of the fun and luxury of a cruise but do not have the money to spend on a two week luxury cruise?

A good compromise for a family who cannot afford to take a two week luxury cruise holiday is to instead book a week long European river cruise, these offer all of the benefits and luxury of a major sea cruise but on a smaller ship and at a fraction of the cost, making them more affordable to most families.

For a family who book a European river cruise you will usually fly out to one of the major European cities where the cruise will depart from and there you will meet your ship, this ship will then take you on a voyage down some of the most famous and beautiful rivers on the continent. As many of the rivers that you will cruise down go through some of the most major cities in Europe a European river cruise is a fantastic way to visit many major cities on one holiday without the hassle of having to negotiate foreign roads, just sit back and wait for the next city to come to you.

Even though the ships that you will travel on during a European river cruise are much smaller than their ocean going cousins they are no less luxuriant and the service that you can expect whilst travelling is no less wonderful. You can expect every bit as good food and drink on you European river cruise and service that would make some of the best hotels in the world envious. Accommodation onboard the ship is wonderful with a room service that is too match , each day you will have a maid service and each night you will have your bed turned down for you.

Even though a European river cruise ship is smaller than an ocean going ship the facilities on board are no less numerous with most ships boasting a ball room, plentiful bars and restaurants, possibly a cinema as well as numerous viewing decks from which you will be able to admire the scenery and the architecture of many of the most beautiful European countries and cities.

A European river cruise is a very affordable way to take a cruise holiday and suits many people more so than a full blown ocean going cruise. A European river cruise is generally an easier going vacation with more emphasis on sight seeing and relaxation rather than organised entertainment. If you want organised entertainment you can find it but it is lower key than a family orientated sea cruise. A European river cruise offers you all the luxury associated with an ocean going cruise but at a much more affordable price. If you are new to cruising holidays or if you fancy a change why not look at booking a European river cruise for your vacation this year?

By Jonathan Hunt

What many will consider the most striking beaches of Puerto Rico-with the exception of Coco Beach-are not actually part of its mainland. Instead, they can be found on islands off the coast. What is often the case with these beaches is that instead of overcrowding and gimmicky tourism ploy, what you get, instead, is a scarcely populated beach that paints a traditional, tropical paradise.

Topping the list is a beach unlike any other in Puerto Rico. It’s ecosystem is seemingly unrivaled, and there are no hotels to spoil your line of sight. Mona Island is often referred to as the Galapagos Island of the Caribbean, and like the Galapagos, some of the more bizarre species of animals call it home, roaming its land and waters, openly. As a result, the island is closed to tourists during hunting season (January - April).

To add to exclusivity, tours to the island are only offered from May through November and to visit the island, you’ll need permits from the Natural Resources and Environmental Department.

Coco Beach is not quite as elusive as Mona Island, but it does share some similar qualities. It offers lingering stretches of virginal beach and colorful contrast between greenery, sand, and vibrant blue ocean. On the beach, however, are as casual scatter of chic resorts; Gran Melia Puerto Rico and Coco Beach Golf and Country Club, just to name a few.

Shacks Beach, also known as Bajuras, of Isabela Island is known for spectacular waters that facilitate the best snorkeling, surfing, and windsurfing in Puerto Rico. What many notice are the sleepy coconut palms that line the beach and offer ideal conditions for napping or relaxing.

Another deserted beach still absent of hotels (we think), is the Northeast Corridor of Luquillo. The island is not as exclusive as Mona and still offers an impressive amount of exotic wildlife and lush vegetation.

What is particularly appealing about the beaches of Puerto Rico is that, save a few of the overdeveloped areas, most of them are incredibly secluded. They project a sensation of unaware onto their visitors. It is a feeling of isolation that is strangely comforting and familiar.

Enjoy Puerto Rico vacations at the Gran Melia Puerto Rico golf resort and spa.

By Serenella Leoni

A newly arrived person might be struck by the style and panache of the impeccably dressed business men sipping an aperitivo in an urban piazza, by the flair of women’s overall “look” as they hurriedly go about their errands or by the surprising bouquet from a glass of full-bodied, local wine at an Enoteca; but one must realize that, as in art, music, and even love-making, the beauty of the outcome is predicated on the enjoyment of a series of precise details; a fact that renders each moment precious.

Every day, Tuscans do what they love and lovingly carry out what they do, moment upon moment. Details are carefully blended so there is nothing “out of tune.” Life is in sweet balance and experienced to the fullest.

As in the past, everyday tasks, craftsmanship and art coexist and flow into one another (consider that when Michelangelo began his career, most sculptors were considered craftsmen): One passion inspires another; art begets literature, literature begets music, music is the creative impetus for food that is too good to be true….

One bite of food can be a lesson in history and sociology: Traditional dishes are made with fresh, local ingredients and based on simplicity rooted in la cucina povera (poor or peasant cooking); often, they reveal the identities of the various cultures or groups who imprinted their culinary marks on Tuscany over time – Etruscans, Romans, exotic invaders, traders, monks, etc.

“A tavola non s’invecchia mai” (you never grow old at the table)! Tuscany is a place of simple, impeccably fresh food and is blessed by a generous sun, rich, mineral earth and abundant water. Organic is common in Tuscany – lovingly organic! At summer’s end, the flavor of a ripe tomato (a treasured gift from the New World) smells fragrantly sweet and explodes in your mouth like a symphony of consecutive, sensual bursts until you actually taste the fiery rays of sun, the rich, native soil and the perfumed air that caringly and patiently ripened the fruit to perfection. The approach of the organic farmer is “tantric;” he does not work his land – he makes love to it.

The respect and care with which the laws of nature (seasons, moon risings, winds, and sky signs) have been observed for thousands of years yield the lustily flavorful crops. Wheat, grapes and olives (or bread, wine and olive oil) – three basic and astonishingly simple ingredients - are the cornerstone for thousands of unforgettable dishes. The sumptuous aroma of traditional, unsalted Tuscan bread made from stone-ground grains, natural yeasts and baked fresh in a wood-burning oven permeates the morning air. When slightly stale, it is a perfect base for soups and salads. The talented, proud food artisans continue to create many varieties of hand-made cheeses, including fresh or aged Pecorino Toscano (Tuscan goat cheese) that cannot be resisted, especially when accompanied by fresh, perfectly ripened fruit and an alluring glass of local buon vino. The village salumieri still salt their own hand-cured prosciutto and hand-made sausages taking pride in their closely guarded, secret family recipes. Your mouth waters at the thought of the smooth, toasty chestnuts; varieties of throat-soothing, velvety honeys; woodsy, aromatic, fresh porcini mushrooms; abundance of intensely-flavored wild game and fresh, abundant Tyrrhenian seafood! Amorously crafted meals are slowly relished at restaurants, locande, trattorie and homes, in even the most remote locations.

Hawaii is a sightseeing paradise. Wherever you turn there is something to see or do, whether it’s on land, on the water or in the air. On your Hawaiian Cruise you will have the possibility to embark on several shore excursions and we have provided a brief overview of some of the major sights and attractions on the Hawaiian Islands.

USS Arizona Memorial at Pearl Harbor, Oahu

While in port on your Hawaiian cruise, be sure to check out the USS Arizona Memorial at Pearl Harbor.

The 7th of December 1941 marks a day that will live in the minds of Americans and people worldwide forever. It is he day that the US fleet was surprise attacked by the Japanese, crippling its naval fleet. This day would only mark the beginning of the hostilities that followed between the US and Japanese.

Located North of Honolulu on the island of Oahu, the memorial commemorates the fallen men and women of the pearl harbour bombing. You can take a tour of the visitor centre, which is located above the sunken USS Arizona and find out more about what happened on this day.

This is an experience and is one of Hawaii’s most popular tourist attractions and a must do on your Hawaiian Cruise itinerary.

Diamond Head State Monument, Oahu

Another top rated tourist attraction popular with Hawaiian cruise travellers is Diamond Head on the island of Oahu.

Diamond Head is widely recognised as the symbol of Hawaii and it’s most well known landmark. It is commonly known in Hawaiian as Le’ahi, which translates to “Brow (le) of the tuna (’ahi)”. Named because of it’s resemblance of the forehead of a yellow fin tuna, visible from its western appearance. It’s more familiar name came from 19th Century British sailors who mistook calcite or basic crystals located in the soil for diamonds.

Diamond Head is a now dormant volcanic crater known as the Diamond Head crater. The crater is famous for its particular section and appearance from the beaches of Waikiki (especially at sunset). Those keen enough to hike to the summit will get a stunning view over Oahu and the city of Honolulu. Be shore to take a flash light to help you navigate through the many tunnels and passageways. Diamond Head is located on Diamond Head Rd, east of Waikiki, Honolulu on the Island of Oahu. Definitely mark this down on your Hawaiian Cruise Itinerary.

Hawaii’s Volcanoes National Park

Hawaii’s volcanoes national Park is a once in a lifetime experience and must be included in your Hawaiian Cruise Itinerary. It is one of the most visited tourist attractions in Hawaii. The park is located on Hawaii’s “Big Island” and was originally established in 1916. The volcanoes national park consists approximately of 1348 km² of land and offers tourists a range of amazing landscapes from sea level to the summit of the world’s largest volcano “Mauna Loa”. It is also home to the world’s most active volcano “Kilauea”.

The volcanoes national park encompasses hundreds of thousands of years of volcanic activity and provides an insight into the creation and evolution of the Hawaiian Islands and their ecosystems.

There are a number of activities available in the volcanoes national park ranging from scenic drives, hiking, camping and a number of ranger led tours. For an excellent day trip don’t miss the scenic drive along Crater Rim drive which will provide stunning views of some extreme volcanic landscapes. Be sure to drop into the Kilauea visitor centre to get more information regarding sights and tours within the volcano park. Alternatively your Hawaiian island crew should be able to point you in the right direction.

Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve, Oahu

Hanauma Bay nature preserve is situated on the south east coast of Oahu, east of Honolulu and is a must see sight for all you ocean lovers. The name stands for sheltered bay with “Hana” meaning bay and “uma” meaning shelter in Hawaiian translation. Hanauma Bay was once overrun with tourists with one year recording over 3 million visitors. At one point explosives were used on a portion of the coral reef to increase the area available for swimming. This overuse eventually led to which led to deterioration and neglect.

In 1967 the bay was declared a marine protection area underwater park. Plans laid out in 1990 have seen the bay restored to a pristine condition with the amount of visitors being controlled. Several fees and charges have been adopted for visitors which assist in the ongoing maintenance and protection of this pristine ecosystem.

The bay features a large network of coral reef which is easily accessible from the shore and is great for snorkellers of all experience. The bay is protected by the reef and the surrounding land mass, which lessens the impact of strong currents and large swells. Marine life is in abundance and you will be astonished as to what you can see so close to the shore. Be sure to call into the visitor centre before you get in the water and grab a fish id card so you know what you are looking at.

This is a must see attraction if you pass by on your Hawaiian cruise.

Haleakala National Park, Maui

Haleakala National park is a nature reserve dedicated to the preservation of the volcanic area found on the island of Maui. Haleakala National Park consists of two areas, firstly the Summit which includes the Haleakala Crater. The summit offers breathtaking scenery and unbelievable views across the island of Maui. The crater is well known for it’s size, it is 11.25 km (7 mi) across, 3.2 km (2 mi) wide, and some 800 meters (2,600 feet) deep.

The second part of Haleakala National Park is the Kipahulu section. This part of the national park is not directly connected to the summit area although can be accessed via a scenic coastal road. The valley of Kipahulu offers completely different scenery to the summit with a lush forest lining, water holes, pools and beautiful water falls. Visitors can even swim in these natural pools if they wish.

These are just some of the more popular sights of Hawaii. If you are taking a Hawaiian cruise you will have plenty of time for shore excursions so if any of the above sites interest you, be sure to mention it to the staff aboard your cruise ship and I’m sure they will be happy to point you in the right direction. Get out there and see Hawaii on a Hawaiian Cruise.

Almonds are excellent source of manganese and very helpful to lower the LDL cholesterol and reduce the risk of heart disease. They provide double-barreled protection against Diabetes and Cardiovascular disease. Almond’s healthy fats may help you to lose weight as well. Twenty years of dietary samples shows that significant prevention of gallstones if you consume 1 ounce of almonds every day. Here is a simple recipe to make eggless almond butter bread.

Ingredients:

All purpose flour - 2 cups

Baking powder - 4 teaspoons

Salt - 1 teaspoon

Sugar - 1/3 cup

Toasted slivered almonds - 1/4 cup (optional)

Milk - 1.5 cups (I used 2% milk)

Almond Butter - 1/2 cup (Nature’s Promise Organic Almond Butter)

Procedure:

1. Preheat oven to 375 F.

2. Combine the dry ingredients and nuts. Add milk to the mix and stir well to avoid lumps.

3. Now add the almond butter.

4. Mix well and continuously stir them.

5. Pour into a 8×4×3 inch loaf pan.

6. Top the batter with some toasted almond slices.

7. Bake for approximately 50 minutes.

8. Have this for breakfast with or without jam. Enjoy!

My Notes:

1) The bread was very moist and sweet enough by itself. The almond butter did have a lot of oil in it, may be that gave the moistness to the bread. You can also substitute almond butter with peanut butter.

2) Adding toasted nuts in the batter gave a very nice crunch. But I wouldn’t top the bread with nuts the next time because they get toasted once again and some of the nuts became little bitter. Not topping the bread with almonds will also facilitate easy slicing of the bread.

3) Cool completely before slicing the bread, so that it does not crumble. I would even recommend to 2 to 3 hours of cooling.

The original recipe with step-by-step photos can be found here: http://www.egglesscooking.com/2008/05/20/eggless-almond-butter-bread/

Jamaica accommodation

When it comes to Jamaica accommodation when visiting this island for a holiday you have number of options open to you. You can either stay in a hotel of which there are 150 of them on the island, you can stay in one of the many guest houses, cottages or condos. Plus you may even if there is a large group of you going to be visiting the island stay in one of the islands large villas.

However, if you are on a tight budget there are plenty of good camping sites where one can pitch a tent. You have the choice of staying at one of the islands more rustic sites or you can choose to stay at one that offers a few more luxuries where there are lots of facilities on the site for you to use. Some are situated on former coffee plantations whilst others are located in the Islands Mountains and forested national parks.

For those who would rather learn more about local life then staying in Homestay Accommodation is worth considering. These are small bed and breakfast places which are run by Jamaican families and you actually stay in their homes. Whilst there you can try some of their home cooked food and may be have a go at learning Patois which is spoken by many native Jamaicans.

As you can see when it comes to accommodation in Jamaica you will be spoilt for choice and the only thing that will determine where you actually stay is how much you can afford to spend on it.
