Corinthian II: Sailing Through Antiquity in Luxury

By Arie Boris   CruiseGourmet.com Magazine

Upon landing in Athens, after a nine hour flight, a Travel Dynamics representative was waiting just outside the arrivals gate. I was whisked off to Piraeus, where I was personally escorted onboard the intimate Corinthian II. I was offered a cool drink, declined an invitation to lunch and was lead to my intimate, yet plush suite. I was met with welcoming deep woods, mirrors, a sofa with matching azure blue curtains and bedspreads. I took a quick shower in the marble tiled bathroom, unpacked (the compact walk-in closet provided plenty of storage) and crawled under a plush duvet for a welcome nap.

Arie’s View: Westin Westminster serves it up!

Just north of the city is a pristine suburban area far from the grit and street urchins of downtown Denver. The city of Westminster is a last vestige of what once was the American Dream, well before the middle class was transformed into the struggling American “underclass.” Manicured lawns, expansive row houses and gas guzzling SUV’s surrounded by Subway stores and chain restaurants just off the main freeway. I have to admit…it is an appealing fantasy in today’s America.

Arie’s View: Relaxing in Malmo – Sweden

At the southern tip of the province of Skane is the idyllic port city of Malmo. The small fortified port back in 1272 has evolved into a one of the biggest cities in Sweden. Today, it has become a major destination in the country thanks to the opening of the Oresund Bridge at the start of the 21st century.

If you are one of those who love to visit parks, Malmo has several to offer. A family favorite is Folkets Park, not too far away from Malmo’s airport. The park opened in 1893 and has been a popular entertainment venue for both locals and visitors alike. There are plenty of restaurants scattered around the area and an amusement park is also located within the park.

Arie’s View: Greek Islands – Aegina

If you are vacationing in Athens, you might want to take a few days off from the city to visit the beautiful islands of the Saronic Gulf. All it takes is an hour ride on a high speed boat and you get to enjoy the relaxing island life, picturesque surroundings and inviting waters. Closest to Athens is the island of Aegina and it is, consequently, the most visited of all Saronic Gulf islands.

For a more authentic feel of the island, sail directly to the main port of Aegina rather than the resort town of Agia Marina. You will be greeted with a port buzzing with busy energy, from the crowded marina to bustling waterfront restaurants and cafes. If you get hungry from the delectable aroma of grilled sea food, walk a short distance from the harbor until you reach the fish market.

Arie’s View: Greek Islands – Northern Aegean

Those who want to enjoy the beauty and grandeur of the Greek Islands – but are not too excited about the usual crowds – will surely enjoy the Northern Aegean islands. These islands offer a serene escape from the masses without sacrificing spectacular scenery and fabulous beaches. With several islands to choose from, you can easily change surroundings and enjoy a variety of experiences.

One of the most popular destinations in the Northern Aegean area is the island of Chios. It is also only 5 miles from the Turkish coast so you won’t have to worry about day  excursions while you are there.
