Unlike other large cruise ships that carry thousands of passengers, Windstar Cruises flagship sailing yacht, Wind Surf, offers a more intimate experience without sacrificing space, comfort, luxury and amenities usually enjoyed by larger cruise lines.
Able to accommodate up to 310 guests, Wind Surf is equipped with 122 deluxe staterooms complete with ocean views. If you like to be pampered just a little bit more, you can also opt to stay in one of the ship’s 31 deluxe suites or one of the 2 deluxe ocean view bridge suites. The decor for the cabins and suites are fairly similar. Standard cabins measure about 188 square feet, but the two bridge suites will certainly impress you with their 500-square-foot space, separate bedroom, living and dining area, marble bathroom with tub and a walk in closet.
Wind Surf appeals to travelers who love spacious areas but still long for the feel of sailing in a private yacht. As guests, you will enjoy room amenities like flatscreen TVs, DVD players, sound docks, mini fridges, and contemporary-style bathrooms. To complete your luxurious stay, you will also be provided with L’Occitane bath toiletries.
Don’t let Wind Surf’s size fool you. This yacht is definitely larger than the other sibling ships (Wind Star and Wind Spirit) in the Windstar Cruises fleet. It has 6 decks and serviced by 191 international staff. This unique ship is also equipped not only with diesel engines but more romantically with 7 triangular, self-furling, computer-operated sails that measure almost 27000 square feet.
The focus public space on board is referred to as the man lounge, which is designed to be bright and spacious, equipped with a bandstand and a dance floor. Unfortunately, the ship does not cater to wheelchair access but is equipped with two elevators.
Wind Surf sails all year round to different parts of the world. From May to October, it usually set sail to Europe, visiting renowned cities like Rome and Venice, as well as iconic Mediterranean islands like Venice, Sicily and Capri. When winter sets in, this luxury yacht goes to the Caribbean stopping by idyllic destinations like St. Martin and Barbados.
When it comes to dining, Wind Surf offers its guests a range of choices. On the Main Deck, you will find a casual restaurant. But if you want more formal offering head out to the Veranda restaurant on Star Deck. This restaurant is perfect for more intimate and romantic dinners. Dinners, at the restaurants above are open seating. It has two seating schedules – 7:30 pm and 9:30 pm. The only restaurant that needs reservations is called Degrees because it is a smaller venue. Degrees features seasonal Mediterranean dishes.
After dining, you can spend the rest of the evening at the bars and entertainment areas of Wind Surf. Aside from enjoying drinks and music at the main lounge, you can also head out to Compass Rose Bar on the aft section of the ship or at the smaller and cozier Terrace Bar. Other things to look forward to on board include two pools and fitness and spa facilities.
