Its breaks are so impressive that it has become the annual host for the Billabong Pro ASP World Tour Surfing event.
The bay’s major surfing locations are Magna Tubes, Albatross, Kitchen Windows and Boneyards. But the undisputed home of the perfect waves is Super Tubes. Because of a strong surfing community, the bay has earned a reputation as a paradise of sunshine, fun and adventure. Fondly called J-Bay by locals and frequent visitors, the bay is also known for its white sand beaches and sea shells.
Jeffreys Bay is a place of diversity and creativity. The bay area encompasses a vibrant town of the same name. Everywhere, you will see a wide range of shops that showcase the artistic talents of local craftsmen. There are also plenty of restaurants, cafes and takeaways to choose from. From hotels to backpacker guesthouses, the town offers a number of options when it comes to accommodation. Two of the most interesting structures to visit while in this vicinity are the Jeffreys Bay Surf Museum and Jeffreys Bay Shell Museum. The serene Shell Museum features collections of the exquisite shells that were found on the beaches in the bay area and from all over the world.
If you are not a surfer, Jeffreys Bay has a number of surfing schools to show you the ropes. However, if surfing is not your cup of tea, you can opt to enjoy and relax at some of the gorgeous sandy beaches in the region. Some of the notable beaches perfect for swimming are Kabeljous-on-Sea and Dolphin Beach, which is the main beach.
It is not only world-class surfers who are highly drawn to Jeffreys Bay. At certain point of the year, whales migrate to this side of the world. Thus, a whale watching excursion is one of the fun things to do while in J-Bay. The strong wind constantly heading towards Jeffreys Bay makes it an ideal spot for kite surfing. Another popular and unique activity for adventurous souls is the stand up paddle. JBay is also an access point to many interesting attractions in the region. Some of the points of the interests in close proximity to the bay include the picturesque St. Francis Bay, the Seal Point Lighthouse, Port St. Francis harbor, Oyster Bay, Marina Martinique and the Kabeljous river valley. Another nearby must-see landmark is the Seekoei River Nature Reserve, a fascinating sanctuary that cares for a wide range of bird species.
